At ABCS RCM, we have seen some reoccurring medical billing problems pop-up for our customers. However, through the use of our services, many of these problems quickly disappear. With this in mind, here are three of the more common billing problems that we tend to see at healthcare agencies and medical practices.

[1] Delays in reimbursements for healthcare services:

There are a number of reasons that can delay medical reimbursements for health professionals. Office staff may not fully understand ICD – 10, so a certain degree of claim mismanagement may exist in the office. If this is the case, there may be a significant delay in reimbursements due to the fact that submitted claims are being rejected. This means that some accounts may surpass the timely filing limits that are imposed by insurance providers.

[2] Digitize claims:

Everyone needs to modernize and stay current with technological trends. Many health professionals have already made the switch from paper to electronic claims. Where a paper claim may take up to 7 or 8 days to reach an insurance carrier, electronic claims only take 1 to 2 days to accomplish the same task. In fact, some electronic submissions may show up the same day. Once a health practitioner has made the switch to an all digitized claim system, they should make sure that they possess an integrated, secure storage database with reliable internet connectivity.

[3] Inefficient revenue cycle management system:

Any department that is responsible for revenue cycle management must be proactive and efficient. They need to be aware of any external threats that could compromise their system and patient data. Whether it is from malware or power outages, emergency backups must be in place. The goal of an efficient medical billing system also means that the office staff is well-trained. Medical billing employees should understand insurance contracts, credentialing, patient demographics, web-based portals, data entry, EHRs, medical coding, clearinghouses, etc.

In the end, all of these elements come together to create an optimized billing environment. There are enough uncertainties in the world of modern healthcare. However, medical billing and the rendering of payments should not be one of these uncertainties.

At ABCS RCM, we pride ourselves in the fact that we deliver a complete suite of revenue cycle management tools for healthcare professionals. For additional questions about this article, digital marketing services or other medical billing topics, please CONTACT US.
