What is ChatGPT:

Basic artificial intelligence is able to pull language from a database (or the internet) and organize it into smaller, more usable pieces of information. A more simplified example is when a Google search returns webpages or other documents based on a user’s input.
In a similar fashion, ChatGPT is returning textual information based on the inputs that a user has requested. It is very good at finding patterns that match and expand upon an original set of data/instructions. In order to further develop this technology, Microsoft has made a multi-year investment with OpenAI. The goal is to develop artificial intelligence that is powerful but safe for the general public to use.
What ChatGPT Can Do:
Recently, this technology was able to perform well on the USMLE (U.S. Medical Licensing Exam) without any specialized training. The USMLE are exams that cover a wide range of medically-based topics such as bioethics, biochemistry, clinical medicine and patient management. In order to practice medicine in the United States, the three exams must be successfully passed.
In order to pass these exams, a score of sixty percent is required. ChatGPT achieved a near passing score on all three of the exams. Using publicly available questions from the June 2022 USMLE, the technology was able to score between 52 and 75 percent on the three exams.
